Aker Offshore Wind and Hexicon comes together for Swedish wind projects
Aker Offshore Wind and Hexicon, a Swedish windfarm specialist, have signed a joint venture agreement to look into the costs of implementing floating wind projects off the coast of Sweden.
“Working with Hexicon presents an opportunity to actively take part in shaping the Swedish offshore wind market, and to support the country’s energy transition towards net zero,” stated Astrid Skarheim Onsum, CEO of Aker Offshore Wind.
Via a soon-to-be-formed 50-50 joint venture, the two companies have agreed to work together to mature early-stage prospects in Sweden.
Hexicon, based in Stockholm, was formed in 2009 and has an experienced team working on floating offshore wind projects in countries like South Korea and Scotland with other existing industry partners.
As Sweden implements plans to improve renewable energy generation and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, the offshore wind market is expected to expand.
Sweden wants to phase out nuclear power, which accounts for 40% of the country's energy mix, and replace it with renewables.
