The LNG carriers, each with a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, will be operated by China COSCO Shipping and deployed to PetroChina International Co, an affiliate of China National Petroleum Corp., for LNG shipping services.
COSCO Shipping will own 41 LNG carriers with a total capacity of 6.94 million cubic metres, once the latest vessels have been commissioned.
In April, Hudong-Zhonghua won a contract worth $2.8 billion to build LNG carriers for Qatar Petroleum, the largest construction contract for exporting LNG vessels ever obtained by a Chinese yard.
"The construction of the new LNG carriers is to response government calls to expand domestic demand," Jiefang Daily reported.
