The equipment may be subject to third-party quality inspections required by foreign authorities during the overseas transfer of defence equipment including governmental ships and their onboard machinery. Under these conditions, ClassNK has set criteria for undertaking third party certification of governmental and naval vessels and their onboard equipment.

The Rules for the Survey and Construction of Governmental and Naval Ships integrate the expertise and the latest technologies that the Society has developed through its classification business over many years and require risk-based safety assessment and condition-based maintenance, making them successful not only in ensuring reasonable efficiency but also in the cost of the ship life cycle.
