DEME Offshore wins contract from Belgium’s Parkwind
A contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of foundations at the Arcadis Ost I offshore wind farm was awarded to DEME Offshore by Belgium's Parkwind.
28 XXL monopile foundations, which are about 100 m long and weigh about 2000 tons each, will be built by DEME. For the project, the company will deploy the offshore installation vessel Orion.
DEME says the contract is worth somewhere between EUR 150m-EUR 300m ($ 182m-$ 364m), and development of monopile foundations is scheduled to begin in 2021, with installation scheduled for 2022.
Parkwind in the Baltic Sea, with a planned capacity of 257 MW, is developing the Arcadis Ost I wind farm. It is expected to be completely commissioned in the year 2023.
“The signing of the foundation EPCI contract with DEME Offshore is another important step towards the realisation of Arcadis Ost I. The project is pushing the limits of what has been done to date in offshore wind in terms of foundation technology. Therefore, it was key for the project’s success to select a strong and highly experienced EPCI contractor such as DEME Offshore, deploying state of the art installation vessels and technology." Clement Helbig de Balzac, Arcadis Ost I project manager.
