German shipowner Oldendorff names its Hantong Newbuilds
German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers reported on Monday that the first of its four Newcastlemax newbuilds on order at the Hantong Shipyard in China had been named.
The new Henry Oldendorff 208,000 dwt bulk carrier is expected to be delivered on Thursday.
The newbuild, together with sister vessel Hugo Oldenodrff due to be handed over in the first quarter of 2021, was sold on an index-linked floating rate basis to ICBC Financial Leasing subsidiaries with a five + five + two year bareboat charter back to Oldendorff Carriers.
The third and fourth vessels of the series, Heide Oldendorff and Hauke Oldendorff, will be operated by Oldendorff and will be delivered respectively in June and August/September 2021.
As of 2019, Oldendorff will have constructed a total of 19 vessels at Hantong, including 12 Kamsarmaxes and seven Newcastlemaxes, upon delivery of all four ships. Eight of these ships were sold to third parties, and six were sold back to floating bareboat charters.
