The step follows an agreement signed earlier this year for the construction of two plus one 114,000 dwt tankers with Chinese shipbuilder COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) Co Ltd.

The four units, Aegean said in a statement, will be shipped sequentially between June 2022 and March 2023.

The latest order brings to twelve the number of Aegean newbuilds ordered from COSCO Group consecutively over the last four years.

“All Aegean Shipping vessels and especially the new acquisitions are certified with the highest eco-friendly class notations enhancing our commitment to the protection of the environment and strengthening the “Green Fleet” perspective governing our operations,” the company stated in their last press release.

When the new construction project is finished in March 2023, the Aegean fleet will have an average age of 2.9 years.
