Hapag-Lloyd inks sale and purchase agreement to acquire all shares of NileDutch
Hapag-Lloyd, a German container shipping company, has agreed to buy all of the shares in Nile Dutch Investments BV, a Dutch container shipping company.
“Africa is an important strategic growth market for Hapag-Lloyd. The acquisition of NileDutch strengthens our position in West Africa and will be an excellent addition to our existing activities on the continent,” stated Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.
NileDutch offers container services from and to West Africa, with over 40 years of experience. The company has 85 offices in 85 countries, including 16 in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Singapore, China, Angola, Congo, and Cameroon.
The company connects Europe, Asia, and Latin America with West and South Africa through ten liner services, 35,000 TEU of transport capacity, and an 80,000 TEU container fleet.

The transaction must be authorized by the relevant antitrust authorities before it can be completed. The acquisition comes after Hapag-Lloyd predicted strong earnings growth last month due to high demand for container transports, which has driven up freight rates.
Hapag-Lloyd is one of the world's leading liner shipping companies, with a fleet of 234 containerships and a total transport capacity of 1.7 million TEU.
The company announced a $1 billion order for the construction of six LNG-powered 23,500+ TEU container ships at the end of last year.
