HMM names its 7th 24,000 TEU goliath at DSME
South Korean shipping company HMM has welcomed into its fleet the 7th of twelve 24,000 TEU container.
The new ship to be named from the batch is HMM Hamburg, which was christened earlier today at Okpo shipyard in Geoje, Korea at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).
Back in April 2020, HMM took delivery of its first 24,000 TEU giant, HMM Algeciras, and the remaining newbuildings are expected to join HMM 's fleet sequentially by September 2020.
Building seven was assigned to DSME, while Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) was contracted to build the remaining five 24,000 container ships from the set, ordered in 2018.
Both 12 ships will be fitted with scrubbers to meet the international sulphur limit which came into force this year in January.
The newbuilds are scheduled to be deployed on THE Alliance's Asia-North Europe commercial lanes.
