Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines merges marine and engineering units
Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) of Japan has announced its intention to merge the wholly owned MOL Marine and MOL Engineering subsidiaries.
“The dynamic positioning system that enables precise positioning of vessels under various marine conditions which MOL Marine has developed through submarine cable-laying, and the extensive engineering experience of MOL Engineering will be MOL Groups unique competency that will contribute to area’s such as floating LNG power generation and offshore wind power generation," company said in a statement.
MOL Marine is primarily engaged in consulting areas linked to port port infrastructure and marine traffic, as well as training for seafarers. It also operates cable-laying vessels for submarines. Inspection and maintenance of marine equipment has been MOL Engineering's specialty.
MOL claims that the merger will positively influence the offshore businesses of the company and the growth of autonomous shipping.
