Kuwait to build new industrial port
The Kuwait Port Authority has joined forces with the Public Industry Authority (PAI) to design and build an industrial port in the South of the country.
The MoU, which also includes a joint project study, aims to elevate Kuwait 's position worldwide and improve its local manufacturing capacity, the report stated.
The Kuwait Port Authority, a public sector body run on a commercial basis under the Ministry of Communications, manages three commercial ports in Kuwait, namely Shuwaikh, Shuaiba and Doha.
The PAI was established by the government to develop and romote the industrial activity in Kuwait, in addition to overseeing it and developing the industrial base to achieve the national economic strategic goals.
Following the signing of the MoU with PAI Director General Sheik Yousef Abdullah Al Sabah, the final agreement will be inked after receiving the official nod from both authorities' boards, its general manager Abdulkarim Taqi remarked.
As per the contract, when the studies of the project are approved, PAI will be responsible for the design, development and service of the new port, while the Kuwait Port Authority will pick and supervise industrial operations, he said.
