Los Angeles Port starts online permit process
It is now easier to apply for permits from the Port of Los Angeles through a single Port Permit Application (APP) portal accessible online at permits.portoflosangeles.org.
The Port, on behalf of the City of Los Angeles and the State of California under the State Tidelands Trust, manages the property in the Harbor Department. Any Port property operation other than visiting areas open to the public needs approval from the Department of Los Angeles Harbor.
Multiple permits may be necessary for certain activities, including leasing, building, repair, demolition, environmental testing , installation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and hosting of port property events.
Last year, the Port of Los Angeles launched the online permit process and supports the Executive Directive for Contactless Government of Mayor Eric Garcetti (August 7, 2020), which calls for every agency of the City to relaunch public services in a contactless and easily accessible manner, encouraging all departments to go digital.
With all terminals operating during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Port of Los Angeles remains open.
The Port of Los Angeles, North America's leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, facilitated trade of $276 billion during 2019. Complex operations and trade at the port of San Pedro Bay encourage one in nine workers around Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
