According to reports, there were 24 on board, 23 crew and one pilot. All of the crew were rescued. The vessel capsized at the entrance to St. Simons Sound while departing the port for Baltimore.
Fuel from the Golden Ray's tanks continues to be pumped into a barge to prevent further discharges and prepare for the safe removal of the car carrier vessel.
“While substantial progress has been made this week, we are only in the beginning of what will likely be a long and complex salvage operation. Our top priorities are to protect responders, public health, safety, and limit environmental impacts,” Chris Graff of Gallagher Marine Systems stated.
