Port Authority of Singapore held joint oil spill exercise
A joint oil spill exercise was conducted at Raffles Anchorage this morning by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to assess inter-agency cooperation and response to oil spill incidents in the Port of Singapore.
A contingency response plan incorporating COVID-19 precautionary steps was implemented by participating organisations, including the Police Coast Guard and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, during the exercise this year. ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, Oil Spill Response Ltd and Singapore Salvage Engineers Pte Ltd. sponsored the exercise.
A collision between two oil tankers resulting in the rupture of two cargo oil tanks on board the tankers was included in the exercise scenario.
Via the use of oil containment booms and the oil dispersant spray system, MPA's next-generation patrol craft demonstrated their improved emergency response capabilities. Moreover, as part of onsite crisis management, the spill response teams deployed a drone from the next-generation patrol craft to capture aerial video.
