Three Russian crew members of a cargo vessel abducted by pirates in southern Cameroon, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated in their announcement. According to the Russian Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroonian authorities and representatives of the ship-owner company are taking steps to clarify the incident, the statement said. Ship owners say such incidents usually end with the payment of hundreds of thousands of dollars in ransom for crew members, or millions of dollars for seized ships and cargoes.

Russian diplomats stated that they are actively working with Cameroonian authorities to facilitate the quick release of the Russian citizens.
