Sanmar Invests in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Graduates
Sanmar, Türkiye’s leading tugboat builder and operator, launched the second Sanmar Engineer Development Program (SEDP) on August 1st 2024, for selected graduates of the country's leading universities.
Sanmar invests in the future of the industry by hiring new graduate marine engineers, providing an all-round development opportunity with this initiative.
SEDP focuses on contributing to the career development of newly graduated engineers by providing them with hands-on experience in various departments related to tugboat production. The program also enables participants to gain a holistic understanding of Sanmar, ultimately supporting the company's sustainable growth.
Three young engineers who joined the first run of SEDP in 2022, continue their careers in Sanmar as Outfitting Design Engineer, Project Engineer, and Strategical Procurement Engineer.
SEDP 2024 is built on the success of previous program. The lessons learned during SEDP 2022 as well as the feedback received from the participants and the relevant players have been incorporated into this second run.
SEDP will run for 12 months, with participants moving through Sanmar’s Production, Infrastructure Maintenance-Repair & Field, Floating Dock, Start-Up & After-Sales, Project Management, Planning, Supply Chain, Quality Management, Outfitting Design and Hull Design departments. The participants take part in both technical and competency-based training sessions throughout the program.
SEDP 2024's participants are Alperen Aybek from Istanbul Technical University, Mukaddes Kuzu of Yıldız Technical University, and Resül Çakmak from Piri Reis University. Sanmar hosted a welcoming event organized by the Human Resources Department with the participation of the managers of the relevant departments, where the excitement of the newcomers in the program was shared.
Chairman of Sanmar Shipyards, Ali Gürün said: “We aim to continuously refine this program based on the feedback we receive from the participating young engineers to make it as effective as possible. SEDP highlights our commitment to investing in human capital development as part of our vision for a sustainable future. We also plan to create a new program in the coming years that will include graduates of the Maritime Vocational School – Shipbuilding program.”
