Second MHI Vestas deck carrier sails away to Europe
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has taken delivery of the second of the two deck carriers on long-term charters with United Wind Logistics (UWL).
MV BraveWind is the sister vessel to MV BoldWind, which was delivered earlier this year. At the Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China, both vessels were constructed. The vessels will be used by MHI Vestas to transport the components of offshore wind turbines.
BraveWind will transport barges from Nantong to Rotterdam on her maiden voyage to Europe.
The deadweight of BraveWind is 10,000 mtons, with a deck length of 128 meters and a width of 28 meters. An optimized hull design and diesel electric propulsion are combined in the vessel.
ABB provides the electrical package and four MAN diesel generators power it. In addition, the MAN engines are fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction system that complies with IMO Tier III emission regulations.
In Jiangsu Zhenjiang, UWL has an option to order two additional deck carriers.
The Hamburg-based company currently operates, in addition to MV BoldWind, another specialized deck carrier, MV Vestvind, which has been chartered by MHI Vestas since June 2017.
