“An important milestone was reached in 2019 with the commissioning of the AIDAnova, the first LNG-fueled ship,” the company announced.
Next year the cruise line's second LNG vessel, the AIDAcosma, is scheduled to enter service. A third sister ship is scheduled for delivery in 2023.
Compared to 2018, 31 percent less plastic waste and 15 percent less food waste per person per day were also included in the company's initiatives in 2019. The consumption of water dropped 6.8 percent.
In addition, AIDA has reported that it focuses on the sustainable economic growth of the destinations it calls for and in Europe, where it is also located, that it claims an annual economic contribution of EUR 5,3 billion and 27 000 jobs.
The cruise line alone in Germany claims to have an economic effect of EUR 3.4 billion and to produce over 15,600 full-time jobs. The company said it is also collaborating with more than 2,600 suppliers, except shipbuilding, across Germany.
