Alfa Laval will be part of the Center's Advisory Board as a strategic partner and will provide strategic and technical support for future growth initiatives and activities.
Alfa Laval said the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center's partnership will concentrate on accelerating the production of low and zero carbon technologies through joint projects and activities.
“Alfa Laval shares our vision of a zero-carbon maritime industry and acknowledges the vast effort required to get there. Their vital experience and knowledge will enable the Center to establish the overall narrative of the transition and contribute to the projects and activities which will accelerate the development of tomorrow’s solution,” stated Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center.
Maersk, ABS, Cargill, MAN Energy Solutions, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NYK Lines and Siemens Energy founded the center in June 2020.
The initiative comes as the industry maps its route to achieving the objective of IMO 2050 and seeks to decarbonize operations entirely. However, new fuels and a structural shift in the industry are needed in order to be able to do so.
Partnerships have been described as the only logical path forward to study potential supply chain solutions and ensure that laboratory testing is effectively matched to scalable solutions that meet the industry's needs. At the same time, new laws will be essential to make the transition to decarbonization possible.
