Australia and New Zealand Ban Cruise Ship Arrivals

Australia will ban cruise ships coming from international ports for an initial 30-day duration.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Scott Morrison over weekend. The country now has approximately 250 reported cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), including home affairs minister Peter Dutton from the uk, and Morrison has also imposed a 14-day period of self-isolation on all foreign midnight travelers.

Cruise ships are already affected with passengers not permitted to disembark at Hobart, Tasmania on board the MSC Magnifica.

A passenger on the Golden Princess is being screened for coronavirus in New Zealand, and three others were placed into quarantine after either displaying some signs or having been in touch with a reported case. The vessel arrived in Akaroa on Sunday but no disembarkation is allowed for passengers.

New Zealand has confirmed that, except for those coming from the Pacific Islands, travelers will have to separate themselves upon their arrival in New Zealand. Cruise ships will not be able to visit the Nation until June 30 at least. New Zealand currently has under 10 confirmed coronavirus cases.
