Urban air mobility (UAM) is an ecosystem that encompasses private air vehicles (PAVs) as well as facilities such as a new navigation system, landing and take-off areas and charging technologies.
As a potential travel scheme to escape traffic jams on urban highways, PAVs or flying cars are emerging.
On December 18, the city government of Busan joined hands with Dong-A University, Korea Maritime & Ocean University and Busan Techno Park to create a base for the promotion of the UAM ecosystem.
The port city identified itself as an ideal place to develop a specialized UAM platform which, by using marine airspace, ensures operational reliability in the marine environment.
To test flying cars, a demonstration section from Haeundae Beach to a public park about six kilometers across the sea was designated.
Busan with a living zone such as logistics and transportation along the sea has optimized conditions for the successful development of the UAM industry In terms of demand and safety. We intend to establish a leading city in the UAM industry by creating and demonstrating various business models," stated acting mayor Byun Seong-wan.
