Arriving in Aliaga for scrapping, the Carnival cruise ship which is the first in her class has reached the end of service. The vessel arrived Aliaga after completing a 14-day transatlantic voyage departing from Willemstad, Curacao.
The vessel is now anchored off the Aliaga coast, and will be beached at the ship breaking facility shortly. On two former Royal Caribbean cruise ships with the same fate Cruise Hive has already registered.
The once iconic vessel that helped the Carnival Cruise Line fleet expand will very slowly be taken apart and the metal will be sold off.
Sister ship Carnival Inspiration is also on its way to scrapping and the ship is in the Mediterranean south of Spain according to cruise ship tracker. She will soon enter the Carnival Fantasy and both ships are likely to be beached at about the same time.
Last Thursday Carnival Cruise Line revealed it had sold the two Fantasy-class vessels. It was already pretty much understood as the ships had been stripped before going across the Atlantic. The cruise line has also reported that Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination will enter a very cold lay-up and will not resume cruise operations for some time to come.
It is not surprising that Carnival Fantasy is being scrapped as she was the oldest ship in the fleet, starting to show her age. The ship was also on brokerage sites before the global health crisis hit. Carnival Fantasy entered service in 1990 and its latest dry dock took place in January 2019. It has a gross capacity of 70,367 tons with a guest capacity of 2,054 at double occupancy.
