The administration will work with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) to create smart ships, a smart transportation management system, smart inspection and monitoring systems, and to forge a smart shipping industry development strategy.
The two sides will collaborate on research and development of new energy-powered ships and devices for energy saving and environmental protection.
The pair plans to devise techniques to help ships reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As one of the largest shipbuilders in the country, CSSC's new tonnage shipbuilding orders grew 34.2 percent in the first half of the year from a year earlier to 5.35 million tons, given the effect of COVID-19.
