Liaoning is an aircraft carrier of the chinese type 001. The first aircraft carrier was commissioned into the Navy Surface Force of the People's Liberation Army. The ship started running in 2012.
The Liaoning aircraft carrier which was originally designed by the Soviet Union as a multirole Admiral Kuznetsov Class aircraft carrier. It completed maiden sea trials in September 2011.
The Chinese-language Shanghai Morning Post announced in August 2014 that Liaoning will hold 36 aircraft: 24 Shenyang J-15 fighters, six Changhe Z-18F helicopters, four Changhe Z-18J aerial advance warning helicopters, and two Harbin Z-9C rescue helicopters.
The inventory of Chinese carrier aircraft is similar to a balanced approach to battle and support aircraft intended for Soviet aircraft carriers that supported nuclear submarines, large surface fighters, and ground-based strike bombers performing anti-access roles.
The aircraft carrier in Liaoning is fitted with a Flying Leopard 3000 Naval (FL-3000N) missile system and a Type 1030 close-in missile system.
