Classification society Bureau Veritas classes Ghana’s floating regasification unit

Classification society Bureau Veritas has completed the classification process of the Torman LNG floating regasification unit (FRU) at Tema port, Ghana.

For gas distribution to onshore consumers in Ghana, the unit is combined with a floating storage unit (FSU).

This expansion of Gasfin's plant, which includes the Torman LNG FRU and a Moss-type LNG floating storage unit (FSU), both of which are Bureau Veritas-classed, pave the way for the first LNG deliveries to a terminal in Sub-Saharan Africa and will help Ghana meet its rising energy demand.

Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) will take a volume that is roughly equal to 1,300 MW of combined cycle power plant capacity.

The 95-meter-long FRU was designed at the CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard in China and is equipped with two IMO type-C tanks.

Bureau Veritas successfully completed the design, evaluation, approval, material certification, and construction surveys of the LNG FRU at Jiangnan shipyard and Tema port as part of the classification and certification scope.

Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore, the consultative arm of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, also ensured verification and surveys for the natural gas send-out heater skid system's design, fabrication, and integration onto the Torman LNG FRU.
