The container ship is the first of the company's five LNG-powered sister ships ordered in 2019.
The arrival of CMA CGM Patagonia is scheduled for mid-August 2021, with sister ships to follow: CMA CGM Kimberley, CMA CGM Everglade, CMA CGM Galapagos and CMA CGM Greenland.
As part of its investment plan in alternative fuels, the CMA CGM Group will have a fleet of 26 LNG containerships of different sizes by 2022 and will become carbon neutral by 2050. An LNG-powered vessel is expected to emit up to 20 percent less CO2 than fuel-powered systems.
From the series of nine, the company named five LNG-fuelled 23,000 TEU containerships, the most recent being CMA CGM Rivoli. A further four 23,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships are scheduled to join the CMA CGM fleet in the first half of 2021.
Measuring 400 meters long and 61 meters wide, the ships are currently the largest container vessels in the world to run on LNG.
