Damen was needed to stretch the vessel by 5 meters, which included the yard cutting the hull in two and the addition of new steel parts, among other items. In order to give additional stability and cargo power, Damen was also required to expand the beam of the vessel using a series of side boxes. In total, there were 875 tons of steel work needed for the project.
35 new silos and a big bag hold were also integrated into the yard, allowing Eidsvaag Opal to transport up to 2,800 tonnes of fish feed.
With five new cranes and a discharge system of conveyors, buckets, elevators and a discharge arm, Damen also equipped the vessel.
Considerable electrical work, carried out by FMJ Marine Automation, was also required for the project.
Approximately 480 cables, approximately 15 km, were removed by the supplier from the old cargo systems alone. In total, 51 km of cable were pulled from the company and 1,237 cables were attached to the project.
In the Fjordfrende collaboration, the vessel will run. Eidsvaag for Skretting and Cargill will run this partnership. Skretting and Cargill are usually rivals in the fish feed industry, but operate together in outbound logistics.
The collaboration is focused on a range of EU Commission-funded horizontal logistics projects aimed at increasing sustainability and productivity in the aquaculture industry.
