The Egyptian frigate Segm Al Fateh and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle participated in the exercise, according to Al-Refai on Facebook. France's only nuclear aircraft carrier is the Charles de Gaulle.
The exercise included training in various of areas, including an exchange of helicopter landings on the vessels' helidecks, remote-close defensive techniques, and dealing with a variety of threats that might occur at any time of day or night.
The exercise was carried out as part of a strategy by the Egyptian Armed Forces' General Command to improve training and exchange experiences with armed forces from "brotherly and friendly" countries, according to the statement.
The last joint military exercise between Egypt and France took place in the Red Sea on March 8, this year.
