The first phase of the Red Sea project in Saudi Arabia will see 16 luxury hotels, two resorts, an international airport, leisure facilities, as well as service and logistics amenities, the developer announced on Sunday.
The Red Sea Development Company said the world's most impressive and exciting tourism and hospitality project will set new benchmarks in sustainable development, while also significantly contributing to Saudi Arabia 's positioning on the global tourism map.
Announced in 2017 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the project is strategically located at the Red Sea shores of the province of Tabuk, particularly between the towns of Umluj and Al Wajh.
The project will see the partnership between the two cities of unspoiled offshore islands, offering tourists a range of seamless customized experiences.
The mega eco-friendly project, spanning over 28,000 kilometers of islands, beaches, deserts, mountains and volcanic areas, would help minimize carbon footprint and waste production. It will encourage visitors to explore the Red Sea coast of the Kingdom's wonders, rich cultural heritage and natural treasures.
It is expected that the first phase will be completed by 2022 when 3,000 hotel rooms will be built along with the airport, marinas, leisure and modern lifestyle facilities offering a unique travel experience.
The mega project, estimated to raise Saudi GDP by $5.86 billion per annum upon completion, would draw one million tourists per year and generate 70,000 new jobs.
The project is on schedule to receive the first guests by late 2022. Research is also underway at the destination, with the development of key support facilities and accommodation for the staff and employees of the organization deployed for construction management.
