The three vessels have been ordered for the Waterways and Shipping Administration, according to Schottel (WSV).
The Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW), Ship Technology division, is in charge of planning and design, as well as tendering and ongoing construction supervision.
The newly built A&R vessels will run on liquid natural gas exclusively (LNG).
Two Schottel RudderPropellers, each with a power output of 4,500 kW, can power each of the identical WSV special vessels, which are over 90 meters long.
The vessels can achieve speeds of over 15 knots and have a bollard pull of at least 145 tonnes as a result of this.
In addition, Schottel MariHub, Schottel's data acquisition and IoT gateway system, will be installed on all three vessels. It collects and analyzes data from sensors, equipment, and other components, which Schottel can then test for the customer.
Working on sea marks, conducting waters police missions, combating pollutant spills and fighting fires, emergency towing within the framework of maritime emergency preparedness protocols, caring for injured persons at sea, and deploying hydroacoustic equipment are among the duties of the multi-purpose vessels.
The Mellum, Scharhörn, and Neuwerk multipurpose vessels will be replaced by the three new vessels. The vessels will operate in German coastal waters in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, and have been authorised for global deployment.
The first of the new special vessels will be launched in 2023, followed by the second in 2024 and the third in 2025.
