HMM Rotterdam is the sister ship of HMM Algeciras -the newest container ship in the world- which arrived the location on 3 June, said Port of Rotterdam in its release.
The vessel can handle slightly more 20-foot containers on board than the previous largest container ship in the world, MSC Gülsün: 23,964 TEUs compared to 23,756 TEUs.
The Korean vessel was shipped to the Okpo shipyard by Daewoo Shipping & Marine Engineering. It is 400 meters long and 61 meters high. The vessel originates from Yantian and will leave for Hamburg at 7 a.m. on Sunday, 16 August.
HMM is the new name for Hyundai Merchant Marine. The shipowner of South Korea is the ninth largest container shipping firm in the world.
