The ships were sold in pairs, moving the Maasdam and Veendam to one company in August 2020, while the Amsterdam and Rotterdam will pass to another company in the fall of 2020.
One pair will go to a new cruise company according to industry sources.
“It’s always difficult to see any ship leave the fleet, especially those that have a long and storied history with our company. However, Holland America Line has a bright future ahead that includes recent Pinnacle-Class additions, with a third sister ship next year that will continue to maintain our overall capacity in the marketplace,” said Stein Kruse, chief executive officer of Holland America Group and Carnival UK.
“I recognize and appreciate the deep affection our guests have toward our company and the ships in our fleet,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line.
Guests with upcoming sailing bookings on these ships will be informed that these cruises will be cancelled or altered. Guests can obtain details along with their travel advisors whether the cruise can run with a different ship or details and exclusive deals about how to book another cruise on the Holland America Line once operations resume. Guests who wish to obtain a refund will be checked in.
