The new Hudong-Zhonghua factory site is located along Shanghai Changxing Island's south shore, with a total construction area of 431.8 hectares and an investment of 18 billion yuan ($2.8 billion) expected.
The facility will incorporate R&D and design facilities, as well as construction and outfitting facilities, with a planned capacity of six ships for construction.

The second phase of the project for the Changxing Shipbuilding Base will determine the future of the construction of Hudong Zhonghua.
By using smart architecture, digital manufacturing, big data management, robot welding, and the Internet of Things to build smart production lines, control, and management, Hudong Zhonghua plans to use the facility to upgrade its manufacturing.
