The International Bunker Industry Association's annual convention has started in Istanbul with the IBIA Bunker training course on bunker ethics. The first day of the convention ended with the Welcome Reception party hosted by the Turkish Chamber of Shipping.
Speaking on the Welcome Reception party, Tamer Kıran, Chairman of Turkish Chamber of Shipping, stated that he is very happy to host IBIA's annual meeting in Istanbul.
Tamer Kıran, seeing Istanbul as the meeting point of Eastern and Western civilizations, stated, “It is also a bridge connecting Asia and Europe. Throughout history, the city has been a crossroads of civilizations and contains a rich culture. The atmosphere, historical, cultural and natural beauties that blend people from every city and nationality make Istanbul undoubtedly different from other metropolises of the world."
After stating that 85.000 ships passing through the straits of Çanakkale and Istanbul every year, Tamer Kıran said "I believe the fact that congress will be held in Istanbul and on the Bosphorus will be a unique opportunity for the participants to see this intense sea transport. On this occasion, all our guests will have the opportunity to see how important Istanbul is as a supply station."
During the three-day meetings, Kıran stated that important arrangements in global maritime sector will be made. "Possible difficulties and solutions will be discussed in Istanbul. 2020 IMO regulations for a clean world and ocean environment will bring significant innovations to the ships and bunker industry. The Congress will undoubtedly show us new horizons to the global maritime sector with its works and results."
