IoS OP allows ship operation data to be shared among shipbuilders, manufacturers, and related service providers without sacrificing the data providers' income. As of the end of 2020, 57 organizations have joined the 'IoS-OP Consortium' member association.
To date, operational data obtained from several vessels fitted with Kawasaki Integrated Maritime Solutions for IoS-OP has been collected by K Line. The company has now agreed to extend the sharing of approximately 140 vessels to its own fleet.
According to K Line, while the advancement of information and communication technologies has made it possible to collect large and diverse data from vessels in service, data collection and analysis methods are still fragmented.
ShipDC is working on a shared forum for ship-related data to facilitate the use of Big Data in the maritime industry.
In particular, the sharing of data greatly improves the amount of ship operational data transferred in IoS-OP and allows members of IoS-OP to make full use of shared big data to boost their corporate value. This involves pursuing the protection and economic efficiency of ships, environmental initiatives and the development of maritime innovations to enhance their competitiveness.
The goal of K Line and ShipDC is to ensure the safety of ships, their contribution to the environment and economic rationality through the use of data, as well as to further accelerate the collection, distribution and use of data in the maritime sector, with IoS-OP at its heart.
