Israel Shipyards is designing new patrol boats for an unspecified African navy in Haifa. The vessels are equipped for a wide range of missions, including defense against the region's growing threat of piracy.
The total length of the OPV-45 is 45.7 m, with a displacement of some 300 tons. They have maintained speeds of 24 knots and a combined range of more than 3,500 nautical miles.
“The MAN 175D type is ideally suited to demanding naval applications and this is the latest in a series of orders we have won globally. The engine’s technical and economical credentials stand it in good stead, while its compactness, shock capability and best-in-class fuel-oil consumption are always key criteria for customers," Ben Andres, Head of High-Speed Sales, MAN Energy Solutions said.
"Delivering complete propulsion packages to these two vessels also meets our ambition to increasingly become a supplier of complete solutions," he added.
The MAN 175D engine is available with outputs ranging from 1,500 to 4,400 kilowatts and is designed for propelling ferries, offshore supply vessels, tug boats and other working vessels and is available in three versions of 12, 16 and 20 cylinders. For other markets, such as super-yachts and naval marine applications, specialist model models are also available.
It is also an extremely eco-friendly engine, according to MAN, which is engineered from the outset to comply with the current, as well as potential, requirements for exhaust gas emissions and utilizes a very compact and versatile SCR system that allows vessel designers to maximize space on board to the full.
