Deputy Secretary of the Interior Katharine MacGregor and Ambassador of Norway to the United States Kåre R. Aas signed the MOU at a ceremony in Washington , DC.
The activities outlined in the MOU include the sharing of scientific and technical knowledge and collaboration on science and technological development.
The DOI and MPE will remain in close contact and will facilitate exchange of experience, best practices, policy and regulatory initiatives related to the production of offshore resources.
It is worth noting that the U.S. and Norway are two of the world 's largest offshore energy producers and have decades of experience in expanding discussions on best practices in the field of oil and gas.
Both countries are involved in exploring strategies for the discovery and procurement of new supplies of marine mineral resources of commercial or economic value. Analysis of offshore wind is also a priority, especially as it relates to floating wind technology.
“The MOU signed today will further strengthen the long-standing energy partnership between our two countries. I’m convinced that sharing of best practices and experience will be mutually beneficial, and contribute to sustainable resource management," Tony C. Tiller, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy said.
