“As previously stated, we expect the overall industry supply-demand balance to improve in the mid-term. Given the time required to reactivate vessels, we believe that the time is right to reactivate the remaining vessels that have been laid up due to the pandemic," stated Torbjørn Wist, acting CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
The three vessels will be reactivated in the third quarter, with the intention of replacing capacity sourced from short-term charters, according to Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen had already agreed to reactivate 12 of the 15 vessels that had been laid up the previous year, with nine of them already in service and three more expected to begin sailing in the second quarter.
