These four vessels will be delivered from 2022 to 2023 and are expected to be allocated predominantly to and from Europe and/or the Middle East to transport vehicles.
The vessels will feature WinGD's X-DF2.0 iCER engines, NYK added. This will be the first time they will use these engines.
By cutting methane emissions from the exhaust gas by around 50 percent, this engine absorbs less gas and reduces GHG.
Further, the vessels will be fitted with battery hybrid technology, which will boost fuel efficiency by mitigating main engine and electrical generator load variability through the assistance of batteries.
The result of this shipbuilding contract for these four vessels is in line with NYK's aim to replace existing vessels with 40 newly built LNG-powered PCTCs over the next decade in order to achieve its environment protection objective of reducing CO2 emissions per ton of transport per kilometer by 50 per cent by 2050.
