An unknown number of individuals on board a single speedboat are said to have targeted the Panama-flagged Vemahope on April 30, about 178 nautical miles southeast of Lagos, kidnapped 10 and left four crews on board.
The incident occurred 39 nautical miles northeast of an incident involving a vessel being shot in February, and 101 nautical miles northwest of what seemed to be a target of accident coverage in 2019, Dryad says.
If true, the latest kidnapping inside the Nigerian EEZ in 2020 will be the seventh deep offshore incident, Dryad announced.
To date, overall accidents in West Africa have tracked patterns in 2019 with a partial decline of only one incident in 2020 relative to accidents over the same timeframe in 2019, almost exactly.
According to Dryad, 42 workers have been abducted so far in 2020 from vessels operating off the West African coast.
