According to Mar Chao, director of commercial and business development, the project will be the focus of the port 's cruise activities going forward.
“The new terminal is in line with the port authority’s strategic objective of sustainability and respecting the environment, a commitment that has been assumed by the entire cruise sector,” commented Chao.
The port is engaged in an industry-wide push to develop and incorporate new technologies and practices to achieve lower emissions, higher efficiencies, a safer atmosphere and greater resilience for the community, the port announcement says.
The plans call for the construction of a new terminal in an area that had previously been served by a shipyard, covering some 100,000 square meters, to serve cruise and ferry services to the Balearic Islands and Algeria, as well as ro-ro ships.
Construction requirements stipulate that shorepower must be fitted for each berth and that solar panels must be built for all roofs.
