Roof-mounted solar power will come from the fifth dedicated cruise terminal at the port and will also have Shore Power connectivity installed. This more contribution to sustainable operations at the port would enable cruise ships to 'plug in' when they are next door, with the right onboard technology.
This investment of more than £ 55 million in the long-term future of cruising will improve the role of the Port of Southampton as the leading cruise round-trip port in Europe and the number one departure port in the UK.
The Port of Southampton's newest terminal, in strategic collaboration with MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd will serve a developing industry that welcomes the next generation of ships in terms of scale, capability and technology.
The project has gained funding from the Government's Getting Building Fund with a £ 8 million grant from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
