Specifically, in 2020, the Dénia company carried out a total of 291 operations in the Port of Valencia for the supply of natural gas, reaching 26,777 m3, representing 40 percent of the bunkering operations carried out by the company in Spain, the company said in its statement.
For years, the Port of Valencia and the Port of Baleària have been cooperating with the introduction of the Multi Truck to Ship System to introduce LNG and to increase the supply of services to ships with this fuel. Thus, 95% of all supplies to Baleària were made using this process, where many tankers simultaneously supply the ship with liquefied natural gas, making bunkering more effective.
“We are convinced that our commitment to the environment is compatible with the company’s competitiveness. We are pioneers in the use of natural gas and this year we will complement the renovation of nine ships in the fleet, which have involved an investment of 380 million euros,” said Adolfo Utor, the president of Baleària.
Utor added that the goal on which Baleària is now working is to achieve zero emissions through ventures in the field of renewable energy such as green hydrogen and renewable gas.
At the national level, Balearia has carried out a total of 714 bunkering operations in the various peninsular ports in which it operates during 2020.
