Ricardo D. Charlton appointed as director of operations at Port Everglades

The Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director of Broward County, Jonathan Daniels, has appointed Ricardo D. Charlton, BSME, FSO, as the new Operations Director.

“Ricardo is an outstanding addition and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him,” stated Jonathan Daniels, the chief executive and director at the Port Everglades.

In fiscal year 2019 (October 1 , 2018 to September 1, 2019), Port Everglades is a self-supporting company fund of Broward County, FL, producing more than $170 million in sales and is ranked among the nation's leading container ports and a global leader in the cruise industry.

Charlton will oversee a staff of 95 as Director of Operations, comprising the Harbormaster Office of the Division, Linehandlers, Operations Support and Container Crane parts, which are involved in the various cruise, freight and energy operations of the Port. He is responsible for the planning and adherence to the budget, the workers, the Port Everglades tariff and the involvement of cruise lines, freight carriers and terminal operators in contract negotiations.

As a Senior Terminal Planner with Freeport Container Port Hutchison Port Holdings in Freeport, Bahamas, Charlton started his maritime career in 1996. He came to South Florida as a Terminal Manager in 2006 to work for Tropical Shipping at the Port of Palm Beach. Since then, with Crowley Liner Service at Port Everglades and Federal Marine Terminals at the Port of Lake Charles, LA, he has risen through the ranks, securing positions of growing responsibility.
