A passenger ship belonging to the German ferry operator AG Ems originating in 1986, Münsterland, has been upgraded to an entirely newly built and constructed aft ship.
Dual-fuel generators, LNG storage tanks, propulsion systems, all LNG installations, pipelines and other systems are included in the new aft vessel.
The aft ship was transported with the same pontoon from the inner-dike position to the dock location. Upon arrival, the new stern was pushed into the dock from the pontoon and placed in place behind the Münsterland.
Most of the conversion operations were carried out physically at the shipbuilding yard due to both shipbuilding and ship repair activities taking place at Niestern Sander.
The basic configuration of the ship will benefit from emission advantages, decreased hull resistance, and less engine power required to sail at the same speed as a result of the LNG conversion.
In the summer of 2021, AG Ems is scheduled to put Münsterland back into service in its current LNG form.
