Russia plans to build $2.2B metal plant to Zvezda Shipbuilding Yard

Russia plans to construct an estimated $2.2 billion metal plant in the Far East and supply steel sheets to the Zvezda shipbuilding yard as part of a push to develop the Arctic.

During a televised meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the head of the oil producer said that the proposed facility on Sukhodol Bay will produce 1.5 million tons per year of steel sheet and steel pipe products.

In Russia's drive to make the North Sea Route a significant Arctic transit corridor for oil, coal and commercial shipping, the Zvezda shipbuilding yard is expected to play a prominent role.

By supporting the construction of roads and housing, Sechin asked Putin to support the project, adding that construction would require about 1,500 employees.
