Samsung Heavy Industries receives new order worth 408.2 billion won

Samsung Heavy Industries, has received a new order worth 408.2 billion won ($371 million) from an unspecified shipper in Oceania to construct two tanker vessels built to transport liquefied natural gas.

Smart ship technology and a re-liquefaction system will be mounted on the vessels.

In a regulatory filing on December 21, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) said that the two LNG carriers will be delivered by February 2024. The new contract has raised SHI's cumulative orders to $4.4 billion so far this year.

The shipbuilder said that in the Mark-III Flex membrane-type hold, a reliquefaction system will be mounted to reduce cargo volume losses.

The membrane system Mark III is a containment and insulation system which is directly supported by the hull structure of the ship. Mark III Flex is the newest innovation.

Detail Design Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping, a maritime classification society, has won SHI's re-liquefaction system for low-pressure, dual-fuel engines. The method of taking on and developing the accepted project design is comprehensive design.

By allowing boil-off gas from the cargo tank to be re-liquefied, the re-liquefaction system provides improved efficiency and reliability. It is designed for dual-fuel engines that are low-pressure.

Due to unnecessary combustion of evaporative emissions during docking or low-speed service, the system can minimize CO2 emissions and preserve cargo volume.
