The new vessels, according to the Yonhap News Agency, will be fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The deal, signed with an unidentified Oceania shipowner, is valued at KRW 458.7 billion (around $415 million), SHI said on 18 February 2021 in a stock exchange filing. It is expected that the vessels will be delivered by the end of Q2 2023.
With the newest contract, the shipbuilder has officially received orders worth $1.7 billion this year so far.
Last week, SHI also received a huge order comprising ten 15,000 TEU LNG-powered containerships from Hong Kong-based boxship owner and operator Seaspan Corporation.
