The offer, disclosed in a stock exchange filing earlier today, comes from an unidentified shipowner in Europe and is worth $2.5 billion (KRW 2.8 trillion).
The contracted ship blocks and equipment are expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, as disclosed.
According to the figures reported by the Korean media outlet The Pulse, the contract has moved the shipbuilder's order goal of $8.4 billion to a 45% completion level.
A contract to build three crude carriers worth 175 million dollars was won by Samsung Heavy Industries.
The buyer behind the contract was not disclosed by the shipbuilder, revealing solely that the company is based in Oceania. The three Suezmaxes, the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing, are scheduled for delivery in early 2023.
By the end of this year, SHI is also counting on some more wins, including liquefied natural gas ventures in Mozambique and Qatar, plus orders for containerships and crude carriers.
