The new order raised the shipbuilder's backlog of LNG carrier orders to 31, the world's highest.
In a November 30 regulatory filing, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) said that the LNG carrier will be shipped by July 2023. The shipbuilder hopes to gain additional LNG projects linked to orders.
Separately, the shipbuilder received an order to construct a Suezmax-class crude oil carrier worth 60 billion won. As a result, 13 out of the 28 Suezmax-class crude carriers ordered so far this year will be built by SHI worldwide.
A Suezmax vessel has a capacity of 120,000 to 200,000 deadweight tons (DWT) and has a length of approximately 275 meters as defined by the passage specifications of the Suez Canal.
The shipbuilder said the new agreement increased the accumulated orders from SHI to $4 billion, or 48 percent of the $8.4 billion target this year.
