“The center exemplifies the type of industry-wide collaboration that is required to achieve significant change. We’re excited to contribute our expertise, and to learn and benefit from the knowledge of our partners as we work to collectively develop the future of shipping,” stated Torsten Holst Pedersen, Chief Operating Officer of Seaspan Corporation.
Over the last three months, many major industry players have entered the center, including Total, Alfa Laval, Norden, and Haldor Topsoe.
Maersk, ABS, Cargill, MAN Energy Solutions, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NYK Lines, and Siemens Energy formed the center in June 2020.
As the industry plots its course toward the IMO 2050 goal, the initiative is concentrating on the production of new fuel types and technologies.
Shipping, as a globally controlled market, has the potential to secure wide industry acceptance of new technologies and fuels, according to Seaspan. These shifts, however, will necessitate a large-scale and structural shift in the industry.
